It is without a doubt that Daisy has always been my favorite. She's personable, calm, gorgeous, and just the right size. I even use to love how she'd yank at her hutch door with her teeth to be let out in the evenings (of course now she has free reign in her colony) and how moody she'd get when she was in estrus grunting anytime I came near her.
I couldn't wait for her to have babies. She was the most motherly of them all. Treating Rose, who was her equal, as her little kit, she would often groom her and cuddle with her.
But Daisy wasn't meant for motherhood. After 4 difficult and stillborn litters I decided it was enough. 2 of the litters had stuck kits and the others just didn't make it out alive despite everything we did. I made the choice a couple weeks ago to get her spayed. Yes, we breed our bunnies for conformity and show but they are pets first. Many breeders would replace her with a producer and rehome her. Not us. Daisy was part of this family regardless.
This is a picture taken of her with Rose's baby. She treats it as her own grooming it, even letting him pretend nurse on her. When I walked in last weekend and saw this my heart melted and broke
I am a 2nd grade teacher by day and a full time farm wife by evening (and weekends and the summer!).
