I always look forward to barn chores but today has been a terrible, no good, very bad day. Earlier this week I noticed our Magpie duckling was acting strange so I moved him to an isolated pen to watch him. He doesn't want to eat or drink and opens his mouth and no sound comes out. I have checked for something stuck, watched poo for obstruction signs, everything and I can't find a thing. Now today one of our 5 month old ducks is exhibiting the same signs and she is very agitated on top of it. Watching them both to see signs of a serious problem.
Then... I go in the chicken coop this morning early to do my barn chores before it is sweltering and I walk in on one of our turkey Toms standing on top of a guinea hen literally ripping her face off. 5 minutes later and she would have been dead. I'm still not sure if she will make it. I have her isolated with antibiotics on her water which I'm syringing and she's eating boiled and mashed egg with yogurt along with an offering of feed. She also is dragging her back leg but refuses to move on it. I'm praying it's not broken. I feel terrible. Was so angry I was going to just butcher him today but they really aren't ready yet so...I moved them out to our bunny run which they hate and the other guineas are in a tizzy because of their friend. I'm worried about all my critters and praying they all pull through!!
